Andy studied Music Theory and Education at the University of Texas at Austin, ultimately earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education. A native Austinite, he has been teaching since 2006 to all ages and styles.

The number one goal for music education is to create a life-long love of learning about music. This includes technique, history, theory, and more. The best way to do this is to teach within the context of the students’ interests. That’s why Andy uses his students’ favorite bands and genres to inform the curriculum for each student. His students get to see the direct application of how to use music fundamentals to create the same sounds that inspired them in the first place.

Andy teaches guitar, bass, piano, melodica (for the youngsters!), ukulele, music theory, performance, ensembles, and songwriting.

Currently, Andy is teaching with the Band Aid School Of Music in Austin, Tx. Band Aid is truly a one-of-a-kind program in its support of the students and staff. Offering more than just lessons, students have numerous performance, teamwork and leadership opportunities in a musical context.
